    Finnish accordion adventurist singular mission is to expand the capabilities, sound, scope, performance and experience of the accordion to levels never before attempted, seen or heard.  Accordion, voice, effects, surround sound and light show combine to make a unique and captivating performance event. All forms of accordion music including folk, dance, classical, rock, experimental, theatre music and more.

    Involved in numerous projects: Kimmo Pohjonen / Samuli Kosminen Kluster, KTU (pronounced ”K2”), Kluster meets Kronos Quartet in the Uniko project featuring music, with French drummer Eric Echampard. He has composed music for a Swedish dance performance, for one British short film and for a Russian film, Majak, Finnish feature film Jade Warrior.

    Pohjonen’s Earth Machine Music project is a live concert program featuring Pohjonen in collaboration on farms with farmers, featuring accordion with live and sampled sounds of farm machines and noises.

    He enjoys a high profile UK with performances at The Proms at Royal Albert Hall London, Jazz Festival at the Barbican, Kalmuk and Kluster at Queen Elizabeth Hall and solo in the Purcell Room. Pohjonen has performed at two Meltdown Festivals in London. Pohjonen / Kosminen Kluster at David Bowie’s Meltdown performed one set of Bowie music followed by their own show. At Patti Smith’s Meltdown at Royal Festival Hall 2005, Pohjonen and drummer Sami Kuoppamäki participated in the Songs of Experience concert performing music of Jimi Hendrix. Pohjonen was nominated for BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards in 2002 and again in 2005 for the BBC Radio 3 Planet Award.

    Is a professor of philosophy and music at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, with a special interest in animal sounds as music.

    Has written and performed on the relationship between humanity and nature for many years.  He is the author of Why Birds Sing, on making music with birds, also published in England, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, China, Korea, and Germany. It was turned into a feature length BBC TV documentary.  His most recent book, Thousand Mile Song, is on making music with whales.  It is being developed into a film for the French television, hopefully to be broadcast worldwide. Other books include Sudden Music, Blue Cliff Record, Hand’s End, and Always the Mountains. His next book, on the evolution of beauty, and how art and science can be better intertwined, is Survival of the Beautiful.  It will be published by Bloomsbury Press in October, 2011.

    Rothenberg is also a composer and jazz clarinetist, and he has nine CDs out under his own name, including On the Cliffs of the Heart, named one of the top ten CDs by Jazziz Magazine in 1995.  Other recent releases include Why Birds Sing and Whale Music.  Recently released is Whale Music Remixed, with contributions from noted electronic artists such as Scanner, DJ Spooky, Lukas Ligeti, Mira Calix, Ben Neill, and Robert Rich.  His first CD on ECM Records, with pianist Marilyn Crispell, One Dark Night I Left My Silent House came out in May 2010.

     Founder of Violent Femmes Rock Band, 25 years on the road and in the studio all over the world. Concerts in over 35 different countries. 10 studio albums and numerous live and greatest hits packages. 7 years of studying shakuhachi (Japanese Bamboo Flute) in NYC with James Nyoraku Schlefer, culminating in a Jun Shihan teaching license and the professional name "Tairaku". Has recorded 3 CD's of traditional and modern music for the shakuhachi. Leader of the "Shakuhachi Club" band with branches in NYC, Milwaukee, San Francisco, Tasmania and Reykjavik.

    Other interests include producing other musicians, playing as sideman or arranger on recordings and touring with various ad hoc groups. Besides Violent Femmes, sometimes member of Zen Circus, Green Mist, G.O.I.N.,Paddy on the Railway. ..
